In a statement signed by the Chairman of SWAN Ogun State, Michael Azeez-Ogunsiji, the association described the late Akintunde as a committed professional, exemplary leader, and passionate advocate for sports development in Ogun State and Nigeria at large.

According to the statement, during his tenure as Chairman of Ogun SWAN, Akintunde demonstrated uncommon dedication to the growth of sports journalism. He fostered unity among members and strengthened the association’s relationship with key stakeholders in the sports sector.

“His contributions to the advancement of sports reporting and administration in the state remain indelible. He was widely respected for his integrity, humility, and unwavering commitment to excellence,” the statement read.

The association further noted that beyond his professional accomplishments, the late sports administrator served as a mentor and father figure to many young sports journalists, offering guidance and support that shaped numerous careers.

SWAN described his death as a monumental loss not only to the Ogun chapter but also to the entire sporting community in the state and across Nigeria, adding that his legacy of service, discipline, and dedication would continue to inspire generations of sports writers.

On behalf of its Executive Committee and members, SWAN Ogun extended heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, friends, colleagues, and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
