Suspected terrorists have killed at least two persons, abducted a trader and shot a young girl during a deadly attack on Sunday evening in Gbugbu community, located in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Earlier reports by SaharaReporters indicated that the gunmen invaded the area in the evening, shooting indiscriminately and targeting unsuspecting residents.
According to eyewitnesses, the heavily armed assailants stormed the community while firing sporadically into the air, forcing residents to flee for safety. The attack threw the quiet town into chaos as gunshots echoed across neighbourhoods.
During the invasion, a business owner identified as Rilwan Bello was reportedly abducted. Bello, whose shop is located beside the popular Ezigbo Store in the community, was taken away by the attackers.
However, his salesperson was shot dead at the scene while the attackers whisked him into the surrounding bush.
A local news platform, NupekoTv-Lafiagi, confirmed that a man from the Dukawa community was also killed in the incident.
Meanwhile, a young girl sustained gunshot injuries during the attack and is currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital.
Community sources disclosed that another body was later discovered after the attackers fled, raising fears that the casualty figure could increase.
This is not the first time the community has experienced such violence.
On July 6, 2025, SaharaReporters reported that gunmen stormed Gbugbu community and kidnapped Alhaji Yau, a popular businessman and phone dealer, in an operation that left residents shaken.
Shortly after, the assailants moved to Guye Dadi, where they reportedly sought another high-profile target, Alhaji Manle. Although he was not at home during the invasion, the attackers abducted his wife in his absence.
Simultaneously, Ekko village also came under attack. One resident was killed during the assault, while another person was abducted, further escalating the toll of recurring attacks in the area.
