We’re determined to win war against terrorism — Tinubu tells governors, ministers | The Alternative News

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s determination to defeat terrorism, banditry and other security threats confronting Nigeria, assuring that his government will prevail through resilience and sustained reforms.

Tinubu gave the assurance on Monday while addressing the 36 state governors and some ministers at the second edition of the National Economic Council (NEC) Conference, held at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja.

The President described terrorism and banditry as alien threats that must be subdued, stressing that insecurity remains a major obstacle to economic growth.

“It is an economic hindrance. If we do not find an immediate solution to it,” he said.

He pledged to continue strengthening the nation’s security architecture and expanding partnerships to tackle insecurity, which he admitted has kept many Nigerians awake at night.

“To further find ways to strengthen our security forces to defeat terrorism and combat banditry, I promise you, is what has kept all of us sleepless at night. But I assure you that we will win with determination and resilience,” Tinubu said.

The President commended Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, and his Katsina State counterpart, Dikko Umaru Radda, for their resilience and initiatives in addressing insecurity in their states.

“I commend many of you, particularly the governors of Borno State and Katsina, and others who have done so much to defend our freedom, liberty, and commonwealth,” he added.

Speaking on the conference theme, “Delivering Inclusive Growth and Sustainable National Development: The Renewed Hope National Development Plan 2026–2030,” Tinubu said the gathering underscored a shared commitment to national progress.

He expressed satisfaction with the impact of his administration’s economic reforms, noting that they have helped stabilise the economy and restore investor confidence.

“I must say again at this juncture that the monetary policy we have embarked upon since the reforms has yielded positive results and gained recognition around the world,” the President said.

Tinubu stated that the reforms have improved the financial capacity of subnational governments, citing increased and more predictable FAAC allocations for states and local governments.

According to him, the gains include improved salary payments, infrastructure investment and delivery of social services, strengthened macroeconomic stability, enhanced revenue performance, and better fiscal coordination.

He also listed infrastructure development in transportation, power, digital connectivity, housing and irrigation, as well as expanded social investment and human capital programmes targeting vulnerable households, youth, women and small businesses.

The President said the Renewed Hope Ward Development Project reflects the administration’s commitment to grassroots inclusion through a bottom-up development approach.

He added that the Renewed Hope National Development Plan 2026–2030 represents the next phase of Nigeria’s development journey, anchored on inclusive, balanced and environmentally sustainable growth.

“The Plan prioritises economic diversification and productivity; human capital development; subnational competitiveness based on comparative advantage; private sector–led growth; and climate resilience,” Tinubu said.

He stressed that successful implementation would depend largely on state and local governments, making the NEC critical for aligning national priorities with subnational realities.
