Insecurity: Service Chiefs Relocate to Maiduguri After Tinubu’s Directive | The Alternative News

Nigeria’s top military commanders have arrived in Maiduguri following a directive from Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a move aimed at addressing the renewed wave of insurgent attacks in the North-East.

The deployment comes amid rising activities by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province, which have intensified assaults on both military formations and civilian communities across the region.

The Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, alongside the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, arrived at the Maiduguri Air Force Base on Wednesday morning, marking the beginning of a renewed operational push.

They were received at about 11 a.m. by the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, Abdulsalam Abubakar, alongside other senior officers. The service chiefs proceeded directly to the Theatre Command Headquarters for an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation.

Subsequently, they moved to the Maimalari Military Cantonment, where a brief Guard of Honour was held before strategic deliberations commenced.

The commanders later held a closed-door meeting with field officers, focusing on operational realignment, intelligence coordination, and immediate countermeasures to stem the recent surge in attacks and bombings across Borno and neighbouring states.

The relocation underscores growing concern within security circles over a possible resurgence of extremist violence in the North-East. Recent incidents, including ambushes on troops and assaults on rural communities, have heightened fears about the stability of the region.

A senior defence official noted that the physical presence of the service chiefs in Maiduguri is intended to facilitate rapid decision-making, ensure direct supervision of military operations, and enhance inter-agency coordination.
It is also expected to boost troop morale at the frontline.

The Chief of Defence Staff is expected to brief journalists after the high-level engagements, with further details anticipated on the military’s next phase of operations.
