Kwankwasiyya Movement Confirms Resignation of Kano Deputy Governor | The Alternative News

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has confirmed the resignation of Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, amid ongoing political tensions in the state.

The development was disclosed on Friday in a statement issued by the movement’s spokesperson, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed.

Abdussalam’s resignation comes shortly after the Kano State House of Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against him. A Federal High Court sitting in Kano had, on Wednesday, declined his application seeking to halt the process.

Announcing the decision, the Kwankwasiyya Movement said the deputy governor had voluntarily stepped down in the interest of the state.

“The Kwankwasiyya Movement wishes to formally inform the general public, the good people of Kano State, and the entire nation that the Deputy Governor of Kano State has tendered his resignation from office,” the statement read.

The group described the move as a difficult but necessary step aimed at ensuring stability in governance and allowing the office to function effectively.

It noted that prevailing circumstances had limited Abdussalam’s ability to fully discharge the responsibilities of his office, making his resignation imperative.

Despite the development, the movement stressed that the decision does not amount to an admission of the allegations levelled against him by the state legislature.

“For the avoidance of doubt, this resignation does not in any way constitute an admission of the allegations raised against him by the Kano State House of Assembly. The Deputy Governor maintains his innocence and firmly believes that his record in office and public service remains a testament to his integrity and commitment to the people,” the statement added.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement further described the resignation as an act of statesmanship intended to preserve peace and prevent political tension that could disrupt governance and development in Kano State.

It also revealed that Abdussalam would now channel his efforts into strengthening the Kwankwasiyya Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections, focusing on restructuring and strategic political engagements.

The movement urged residents of the state and its supporters to remain calm, law-abiding, and committed to democratic principles, assuring that further developments would be communicated in due course.
