Segun Odegbami Announces Death of Henry Nwosu at 62 | The Alternative News



Former Super Eagles midfielder Henry Nwosu has died at the age of 62.

His former teammate, Segun Odegbami, announced the development on Saturday via his social media page.

Nwosu was a member of the Nigerian team that won the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations, hosted by Lagos.

Announcing the death, Odegbami wrote:
“Henry Nwosu passes on.

“After five days in hospital battling for his life, the one I call ‘Youngest Millionaire’ passed on at about 4:00 a.m. this morning at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, where he had been in intensive care since Wednesday.

“It is with deep pain in my heart that I have to be the conveyor of the news of the death of Henry Nwosu, MON. May he rest peacefully with our Creator in Heaven.”

Nwosu, who was the youngest member of Nigeria’s squad at the 1980 tournament, was widely celebrated for his contribution to the country’s victory in the continental competition, where the national team, then known as the Nigeria national football team (Green Eagles), secured their first **Africa Cup of Nations title on home soil.

The former midfielder remains one of the notable figures in Nigerian football history for his role in the nation’s early international success.
