Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East Senatorial District have endorsed Governor Dapo Abiodun as their consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.
The endorsement was announced on Monday during a well-attended meeting held at Adeola Odutola Hall, which brought together party leaders and grassroots representatives from across the district.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Lekan Adeniran, the gathering featured members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, former and serving local government chairmen, councillors, and past and present lawmakers at both state and national levels, as well as women and youth leaders.
According to the statement, participants included councillors from all wards, ward executives, local government executives, serving members of the National Assembly and the State House of Assembly, as well as members of the Elders Advisory Council.
Speaking at the event, former Ogun East senator, Lekan Mustapha, said the endorsement was based on a shared conviction that Governor Abiodun possesses the capacity to effectively represent the district at the Senate.
He disclosed that party leaders would formally communicate the decision to the governor and expressed readiness to purchase his nomination forms.
“We will put a body together to deliver this message to our governor that he has been adopted as the consensus candidate,” Mustapha said.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, described the endorsement as unanimous and reflective of the governor’s track record in governance and party unity.
“This endorsement is historic and unanimous. It reflects the collective belief that Prince Dapo Abiodun is the right person for the position,” Talabi said.
A member of the House of Representatives, Femi Ogunbanwo, representing Odogbolu, Ijebu-Ode and Ijebu North East Federal Constituency, commended the governor’s performance, noting that his administration has fostered peace and development across the state.
Similarly, the Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Afolabi Odulate, urged the governor to accept the senatorial bid, describing the endorsement as a collective decision of the district.
The event reportedly drew participation from all 103 councillors across the nine local governments in Ogun East, alongside youth leaders and key grassroots mobilisers.
Other prominent figures in attendance included Gbenga Kaka, Ogun East APC Chairman Adedoyin Adeleke, and party elders such as Kola Ogunjobi, Bayo Dayo, Durojaye, Pegba Otemolu, James Dina, and Osibote Amoran.
Also present were party officials and lawmakers including Femi Nuberu, Adesola Elegbeji, Joseph Adegbesan, and other members of the House of Representatives.
