Bala Mohammed Declares ‘Freelance Politician’ Amid Ongoing Political Realignments | The Alternative News

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has described himself as a “freelance politician,” stating that he currently has no firm allegiance to any political party.

Mohammed made the remark on Thursday while hosting Peter Obi, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, alongside stakeholders from the South-East in Bauchi.

The governor explained that the meeting focused on national unity and collaboration rather than partisan politics, noting that ongoing engagements among political actors are aimed at exploring possible alliances ahead of future elections.

“Neither Peoples Democratic Party nor ADC is standing alone. I am a freelance politician now… we are all in the opposition,” he said, adding that discussions are ongoing and influenced partly by judicial developments.

Mohammed emphasised that political actors cannot function without a platform but suggested that the current situation could foster unity and strengthen electoral prospects.

He described Obi’s visit as symbolic of efforts to build bridges across regions and promote national cohesion.

In his remarks, Obi said the visit was part of broader consultations to unite stakeholders across the country, dismissing speculation that the engagement was about party defections.

“We are not inviting each other into political parties; we are inviting ourselves to build a better Nigeria,” Obi stated.
The meeting was attended by notable South-East figures, including Achike Udenwa, Enyinnaya Abaribe, and Victor Umeh.

The development comes amid increasing political consultations and realignments across party lines as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
