FG Declares May 1 Public Holiday to Mark Workers' Day | The Alternative News

 



The Federal Government, led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s International Workers' Day.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government. He congratulated Nigerian workers on the occasion, acknowledging their contributions to national development.

According to a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, the Minister commended workers for their dedication, diligence, and commitment, describing their efforts as vital to the country’s growth and prosperity.

Tunji-Ojo further urged workers to uphold values such as patriotism, productivity, and commitment to duty, noting that these are essential for sustainable national development.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria remains committed to improving the welfare and security of all workers while fostering an enabling environment for economic growth,” the statement read.

He also called on Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding during the celebration, encouraging citizens to reflect on the importance of unity and hard work in building a stronger nation.
