Four children have been killed in a knife attack at a kindergarten in Kampala, Ugandan police confirmed on Thursday.
According to authorities, the suspect, an adult male, allegedly gained entry into the school by posing as a parent before carrying out the attack. Local reports indicate that the victims were between the ages of two and three.
Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the incident occurred at a nursery facility in the Makindye Division of the city. “We confirm a tragic incident… where a male suspect brutally stabbed and killed four juveniles,” she stated.
Residents in the area reportedly attempted to lynch the suspect as he tried to flee, but security personnel intervened and took him into custody.
The motive for the attack remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
Videos circulating on social media showed distraught parents gathered outside the school premises, which has since been cordoned off, as they sought information about their children.
Fatal attacks of this nature are considered rare in Uganda.
