Iran Reopens Strait of Hormuz Following Israel-Lebanon Ceasefire | The Alternative News

Iran has announced the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping, citing the ongoing ceasefire linked to the conflict involving Israel and Lebanon.

The development comes hours after former U.S. President Donald Trump disclosed that Israel and Lebanon had agreed to de-escalate hostilities, aligning with a broader ceasefire arrangement earlier reached between Iran and the United States.

The truce followed peace talks facilitated by Pakistan, which resulted in a temporary two-week ceasefire agreement between Iran and the U.S.

However, subsequent negotiations in Islamabad reportedly stalled last week.

Despite the ceasefire framework, tensions persisted as Israel halted direct strikes on Iran but continued military operations in Lebanon. Tehran had earlier warned that continued Israeli actions in Lebanon could undermine the ceasefire and disrupt ongoing diplomatic efforts in the Middle East.

In a statement shared on social media, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, confirmed that the key maritime route is now “completely open” to commercial vessels for the duration of the truce. He noted that ships must adhere to designated routes coordinated by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organisation.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital global energy corridor through which a substantial portion of the world’s oil supply is transported. Its reopening is expected to ease recent disruptions and provide temporary stability to international shipping and energy markets.
