Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the military, have rescued two kidnapped victims and recovered N4.2 million suspected to be ransom in Delta State.
The operation also led to the neutralisation of two suspected kidnappers following a gun battle with security operatives.
The State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, disclosed that the success was achieved through a coordinated, intelligence-led operation involving both the police and the military.
According to him, on April 9, 2026, the security team tracked the suspects to their hideout along the Obulu-Uku Power Line after a reported kidnapping incident in Ibusa and Enu-Ani Mega City in the Ogwashi-Uku area.
He explained that the suspects opened fire on sighting the operatives, prompting a response from the security team. The exchange led to the rescue of two female victims.
Oyeniyi said two members of the kidnapping syndicate, who sustained gunshot injuries during the confrontation, were taken to a hospital where they were later confirmed dead.
Items recovered from the suspects include one AK-47 rifle, 19 rounds of ammunition, and N4.2 million believed to be part of ransom collected from victims.
The police commissioner added that a bush-combing operation is ongoing to recover additional weapons and apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
