School Resumption: SUBEB Urges Teachers to Intensify Pupils' Enrollment Drive | The Alternative News

By Gafar Alabi,

As public primary schools across the State resume for the third term of the 2025/2026 academic session, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has called on teachers to intensify efforts toward increasing pupils’ enrolment.

The Chairman of the Board, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, gave the charge during a school monitoring exercise, noting that a sustained enrollment drive was critical to the growth of basic education in the State.

Represented by Permanent Member III, Hon. Abiodun Ajayi, Ifede expressed concern over the low turnout of learners in schools, urging teachers to take proactive steps in engaging parents and guardians to ensure pupils return to the classroom.

“It is important to work seriously on enrollment drive. You must take proactive steps by liaising with parents to bring pupils back to the classroom,” he said.

He also reemphasised the need to strengthen pupils’ reading, speaking and writing abilities, describing them as fundamental to achieving academic excellence.

The SUBEB boss commended the commitment and professional appearance of teachers, urging them to translate the same level of dedication into improved learning outcomes. He further encouraged them to remain motivated, noting that there had been noticeable improvements across schools and calling for sustained momentum.

In their separate remarks, the Headteachers of Yewa South Local Government Nursery and Primary School II, Ilaro, Mrs. Omowunmi Enitan and St. Joseph Nursery and Primary School, Oluwo-Odunjo in Abeokuta North Local Government, Mrs. Fausat Nasir, appreciated the monitoring team for the visit. They assured the Board of their commitment to intensifying efforts toward improving pupils’ enrolment and academic performance.

Other schools visited during the monitoring exercise included; St. Luke’s Primary School, Ibara-Orile; Christ Church Primary School, Imasayi, Yewa North; Ansar-ud-deen Primary School, Imasayi, Yewa North, among others.
