President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Shu’aib Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).

Aliyu succeeds Ahmed Aminu, who resigned from the position to pursue his governorship ambition in Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a related development, the President approved the reappointment of Sule Abdulaziz as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for a second and final term.

The appointments take immediate effect, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The Presidency described Aliyu as a seasoned academic and administrator with extensive experience in research and institutional leadership, noting that his appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening key institutions in the petroleum sector and advancing capacity development in Nigeria’s energy industry.

It added that the President expects him to reposition the PTDF to enhance human capital development, foster innovation, and provide strategic support for the oil and gas sector in line with national priorities.

On Abdulaziz’s reappointment, the statement said the decision followed a review of his performance, citing improvements in grid stability, expansion of transmission capacity, and ongoing system modernisation under his leadership.

The Presidency also highlighted his role in advancing regional electricity integration through the West African Power Pool.

President Tinubu urged both appointees to discharge their duties with diligence and integrity in line with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
