President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has endorsed the decision of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) to adopt Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The development signals growing alignment within Lagos political leadership ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Reports indicate that the President met with members of the GAC, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Hamzat on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting, which commenced at about 2:30 p.m., brought together key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.

Political observers view the gathering as part of ongoing consultations surrounding the state’s 2027 governorship succession plan and efforts to strengthen internal party cohesion.
