President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has granted governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the authority to determine how party primaries will be conducted ahead of upcoming elections.

The decision followed a high-level meeting held at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.

Governor Umar Bago disclosed this while addressing journalists after the meeting, stating that the President issued clear directives regarding the party’s internal processes.

According to Bago, the development reflects growing trust in the governors and signals a shift in how decisions on primaries will be handled within the party.

“We came to thank the President for his magnanimity and his support to the governors and for our party, the APC,” he said.

He added that President Tinubu has now empowered governors to take full charge of organising primaries in their respective states, in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

“President Tinubu gave us some marching orders on what to do. For him also to have given and ceded his executive power to governors to go ahead and conduct primaries based on the Electoral Act—either by consensus or direct primaries,” Bago stated.

“So he reiterated his support for our decision and he has given us a go ahead,” he added
