APC Members Protest Alleged Imposition of Candidates in Ijebu Ode

A peaceful protest erupted in Ijebu Ode on Thursday as members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) staged a demonstration over the alleged imposition of candidates ahead of the forthcoming general election.

The aggrieved party members, who gathered in large numbers at the Local Government Secretariat in Ijebu Ode, carried placards with inscriptions such as “We Say No to Imposition,” “Let’s Go to Primary,” and other messages demanding transparency and internal democracy within the party.

Chants of solidarity filled the atmosphere as the protesters insisted that candidates should emerge through a credible and democratic process rather than through alleged imposition.

Some party faithful who spoke during the protest warned that failure to address their grievances could create disunity within the party and affect the APC’s chances in future political contests in the area saying in Ijebu ode State Constituency particularly they prefer Hon. Bakare Omolola Serifat (BOO) to be returned.

Speaking during the protest, Mrs. Ajayi Fatimo said the demonstration was aimed at rejecting the alleged imposition of candidates in Ijebu Ode Local Government.

“We don’t want the imposition of candidates in Ijebu Ode. We prefer going to the field for proper primaries. That is why we staged a peaceful protest to the Local Government Secretariat. We have come to express our grievances to the chairman of the council,” she said.

Addressing the protesters, the Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government, Hon. Dare Alebiosu, said he had listened to their complaints and assured them that their message would be conveyed to the appropriate quarters.
