The Ogun State Police Command has arrested five suspects, including a father and his son, and recovered four firearms in a series of coordinated intelligence-led operations across various divisions of the state.
In a press statement issued on Friday via X, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed that the recovered weapons include one locally made pistol, one locally fabricated pistol, and two Dane guns. Also recovered were one live cartridge and a stolen Tecno Android phone valued at ₦180,000.
According to the statement, operatives of the Afon Division arrested Fatai Adegbola and his 23-year-old son, Waliu Adegbola, following a theft report received on May 22, 2026. Waliu was alleged to have stolen a Tecno Android phone from a residential apartment on May 8, 2026.
“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives tracked and recovered the stolen phone. A subsequent search of the suspects’ residence, carried out with a duly obtained warrant, led to the discovery of a locally made pistol and a Dane gun concealed within the premises,” the statement read.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Ilisan Remo Division recovered a locally fabricated pistol with one live cartridge during a routine patrol at the Ilisan Remo Roundabout on May 27, 2026, at about 7:30 a.m. The firearm was found abandoned and has been secured, while investigations are ongoing to determine its origin and ownership.
Similarly, operatives of the Ode Remo Division arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Inioluwa Adesanya, in connection with the theft of a Dane gun belonging to a resident. Investigations revealed that the suspect gained access to the victim’s residence under the guise of a carpenter’s assistant engaged for renovation work before stealing the firearm.
The police added that the suspect confessed to the crime and admitted affiliation with the Aye confraternity, noting that the weapon had been modified for concealment.
All suspects and recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their professionalism, swift response, and effective intelligence-driven policing. He reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining operations against violent crime, cultism, armed robbery, and illegal possession of firearms across the state.
The command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
