Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has expressed readiness to serve as running mate to Peter Obi or any candidate nominated by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso made this known during an appearance on PrimeTime on Arise TV, stating that the party’s decision would be binding on all members.

According to him, the NDC has agreed to zone its presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria for a single four-year term, after which power would return to the North.
He noted that northern stakeholders within the party accepted the arrangement as a means of addressing long-standing tensions over power rotation.
Kwankwaso emphasized that competence and commitment to national development should take precedence over regional considerations. He also disclosed that he and Obi had held discussions on strategies to address insecurity, particularly in Northern Nigeria.
The former governor further hinted at the possibility of future political collaboration with Atiku Abubakar, noting that past differences do not preclude renewed alliances.
On youth participation, Kwankwaso observed that the 2027 elections would be significantly influenced by young Nigerians demanding a shift in leadership direction. He added that both the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya movements share similar values of discipline and positive engagement.
He also criticised some state governors, alleging overdependence on Bola Ahmed Tinubu for electoral success, while stressing that voters, particularly in the North, are increasingly focused on leadership quality rather than inducements.
