The Chief Whip of the Ogun State House of Assembly and Member representing Ijebu Ode State Constituency, Hon. (Mrs) Bakare Omolola Olanrewaju, has revealed that the leadership of the party withdrew support for her re-election bid due to her political alignment with Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi).
In a press statement issued on Saturday, the lawmaker noted that her support for the senator “contributed significantly” to the governor’s decision. Despite the setback, she emphasized that she harbours no bitterness and remains loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Hon. Bakare expressed deep appreciation to the party leadership, the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) led by Chief O.B. Okuboyejo, traditional leaders including the Iyalaje of Akile Ijebu, the Iyaloja, Olojas, the Chief Imam of Ijebuland, and her constituents for their steadfast support.
“I do not regret my support for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola,” she stated, while also noting that there have been attempts to misrepresent her character, which she described as unfounded.
She urged her supporters to remain calm and continue to engage in the democratic process, stressing that “our collective goal remains the advancement of our people and the strengthening of our democratic institutions.”
She also expressed gratitude to Almighty God and all those who supported her during her first tenure and her re-election bid, praying that they are abundantly rewarded.
“Politics, by its nature, involves negotiation, alignment, and sometimes difficult decisions taken in the broader interest of unity and strategy,” Hon. Bakare added, noting that she accepts the outcome with a sense of responsibility and respect for the party.
She concluded by calling for unity and continued service, ending her statement with a Yoruba prayer: “Olorun a san awon omo yin ni esan lotun losi” (May God reward your children abundantly).
