A former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), barely one month after joining the party from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Gwarzo had joined the ADC on April 5 at a well-attended event in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, where he was formally presented with his membership card.
His defection followed that of former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who joined the party on March 30 from the NNPP, the platform on which he contested the 2023 presidential election.
However, recent political realignments saw Kwankwaso and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, exit the ADC for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing wide-ranging consultations and uncertainty over the party’s future.
In a resignation letter dated May 1 and addressed to the ADC ward chairman in Gwarzo LGA, Gwarzo, widely regarded as a political ally of Kwankwaso, said his decision followed extensive consultations with associates and supporters across the state.
“Recent political developments and the evolving political landscape have made it necessary for me to review my membership in the interest of the people and the future of our state and the nation,” he stated.
“My decision is informed by patriotic considerations and the need to pursue a political path that aligns with my vision for good governance, democratic values, and sustainable development of our dear state.”
While he did not disclose his next political destination, Gwarzo expressed appreciation to the ADC leadership and members in Kano State for their support during his brief stay in the party.
“I remain grateful for the opportunity accorded me under the platform of the party. Please accept my highest regards and best wishes,” he added.
