The Nigeria Police Force, Oyo State Command, has confirmed the death of a motorcyclist following an encounter with its officers along the Iseyin/Oyo Road.

The incident was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, in Ibadan.

According to the statement, the encounter involved officers from the Border Patrol Unit and a Fulani man riding a motorcycle. The command stated that the individual became restive and violent, which led to a confrontation.

“During the ensuing clash, he was struck and fell from his motorcycle. He was immediately rushed to a medical facility, where he was confirmed dead,” the statement read.

The command added that the Commissioner of Police has ordered the detention of all officers involved, pending the outcome of a comprehensive investigation. An autopsy has also been directed to determine the exact cause of death.

The incident reportedly triggered a brief protest in Iseyin, which was later brought under control after authorities assured residents that justice would be served.

The development comes amid increasing public scrutiny of police conduct, following a recent case in Delta State involving the alleged shooting of a restrained suspect by an officer.

Police authorities had stated that the case was transferred to the Force Headquarters to ensure transparency and accountability in the investigation.
