Reps Defections: Bello El-Rufai, Two Others Dump APC, PDP for ADC - The Alternative News

Three members of the House of Representatives have defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, announced the defections during Thursday’s plenary after reading the lawmakers’ notices.

Among those who switched parties is Bello El-Rufai, representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency, who moved from the APC to the ADC.

Also defecting to the ADC are Ajilo Shehu, representing Makarfi/Kudan Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, and Sulieman Richifa, who represents Soba Federal Constituency, both of whom left the PDP.

In a related development, Joshua Obika, representing Abuja Municipal/Bwari Federal Constituency in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), defected from the APC to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Similarly, Esosa Iyawe, representing Oredo Federal Constituency in Edo State, also moved from the APC to the NDC, citing “irreconcilable differences” with the state governor, Monday Okpebholo.

Speaking on his defection, Bello El-Rufai said he would seek re-election on the ADC platform, stressing that his decision was driven by conviction and commitment to quality representation.

“This decision was not taken lightly. As a proud son of Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, I am guided by courage, conviction, and the unshakable belief that our people deserve the very best,” he said.

“To the people of Kaduna North: our work continues, and it will not stop. We will never compromise on delivering quality representation. There is still so much to do.”

The development comes amid ongoing political realignments in the lower chamber, following the recent defection of 17 lawmakers from the ADC to the NDC earlier in the week.
