The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has disclosed that stakeholders in Ebonyi State will on Monday, June 15, formally adopt President Bola Tinubu as their sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Umahi made this known on Saturday while speaking in Abakaliki, the state capital, during an interaction with a delegation of editors and journalists touring federal and state projects across the South-East.
The tour covered key states in the region, including Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, and Imo.
According to the former Ebonyi State governor, the move reflects growing appreciation among South-East residents for the policies and projects of the Tinubu administration.
“When we talk about the gains of the people of the South-East under President Bola Tinubu, some people who do not understand what we are talking about would continue to demarket us,” Umahi said.
“But the South-East people are very appreciative of President Bola Tinubu, and I think by Monday, under the leadership of the governor of Ebonyi, we are going to demonstrate it when we adopt the president as our sole candidate.”
Umahi also dismissed support for former presidential candidate Peter Obi in the state, insisting that Ebonyi is not aligned with the “Obidient” movement.
“And let it be known that Ebonyi State is not ‘Obidient’ because we want to catch up with the rest of the country, and we will never be ‘Obidient’. What happened before was an accident of history. It will not repeat itself,” he said.
Addressing concerns over alleged abandoned federal projects in the South-East, the minister highlighted several ongoing infrastructure projects, which he described as legacy initiatives of the current administration.
He cited the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway extension linking to the South-East, a N444 billion project, as well as other road developments, including a N196 billion project connecting parts of Abia to the Port Harcourt-Enugu federal highway.
Umahi also referenced the N65 billion Ndibe Beach project and the N183 billion Enugu-Abakaliki road, noting that these projects demonstrate the federal government’s commitment to the region.
He maintained that claims of project abandonment in the South-East are inaccurate, insisting that significant progress is being made across multiple sites in Ebonyi State and beyond.
