Suspected gunmen on Tuesday night reportedly launched a coordinated attack on the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, making away with firearms belonging to officers on duty at the time of the incident.
The attack was said to have occurred at about 10:00 p.m. at the immigration facility located along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin Motorway, near an NNPC filling station.
According to reports, the armed assailants struck while commercial activities were still ongoing at the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market, a busy hub within the area.
During the operation, officers stationed at the immigration office were reportedly overpowered by the invading gunmen, who subsequently dispossessed them of their firearms before fleeing the scene.
However, the exact number of weapons taken could not be immediately confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
As of press time, security authorities had yet to provide full details regarding the incident or clarify the scale of the attack, including whether any injuries or casualties were recorded.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed that he had not received an official briefing on the development.
“I have not been briefed on the incident at this time. I will provide updates as soon as the necessary information becomes available,” he stated.
Meanwhile, neither the Nigeria Immigration Service nor other security agencies had issued an official statement concerning the invasion, the number of firearms allegedly taken, or the identity of the attackers.
