The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni has condemned in strong terms, the current high rate of moral decadence in the country tasking PR practitioners to employ their skills as Professionals in rejuvenating it for a better society.
The CP who gave the clarion call to Public Relations experts, while hosting a Team from Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Ogun State Chapter, in his office at Eleweran, Abeokuta, described them as agents of change equipped with the necessary training to make positive impacts.
The police boss identified parental and societal indolence as key factors that has resulted in societal degradation, indiscipline and defiance, especially amongst the youth, imploring parents and guardians to wake up to their responsibilities of instilling discipline and moral conducts into their children.
"We have social vices and morality problems, a lot has gone wrong in our society. People no longer transmit positive values to younger generations. Many can't assert authority over their children again. Parents should not encourage wrong doing. Discipline your child when need be. Let's correct this wrong and punish where necessary", he enjoined.
To Public Relations practitioners, he implored them strive to put more effort into using the profession to correct societal vices, rejuvenating morality and re-orientating those actively indulging in societal ills, through the practice of ethical standards and contant education of the younger generation, while also promising a more cordial relationship and support for the Institute.
Lending their voices to the Commissioner's, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Bolanle Muritala, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration,
DCP Ibrahim Abdul and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Administration, ACP Olu Moore Akinmoladun, said Public Relations practitioners should work hand in hand with Government to redeem the image of Nigeria through acts of patriotism, emphasizing the importance of sound as well as good home training in a child and the need for the Profession to have social Clubs in schools in a bid to catch them young.
Earlier, the Chairman, NIPR, Ogun State Chapter, Mrs Oluwaseun Boye, said the visit was to felicitate CP Ojanuni on his elevation as the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command and applaud his unblemished track record in the Nigeriab Police Force alongside his commendable performance as a former police spokesperson, while also being an active member of the NIPR, appreciating the support and cordial relationship that exist between the Chapter and the Ogun State Police Command.
She enumerated some achievements of the Chapter under her leadership to include successful hosting of the maiden edition of the Nigerian Public Relations Week (NPRW), 2024, hosted in Abeokuta, its Annual Colloquium, training programmes, mentoring of young professionals, the recent coastal retreat, Owambe Cultural Night, that serves as the Chapters End of Year Get-together to mention a few.
Thereafter, the CP and the management Team led the guests on a tour of its key departments including the Gateway Shield, a Unit that sees to matters bothering on security related distress from the public via a toll free line.
