The Oyo State Government has dismissed as false a viral video circulating on social media alleging that pupils, students, and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area have been released.
The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, described the video as misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents and families of the victims.
Oyelade clarified that, contrary to claims in the footage, the abducted individuals have not regained their freedom. He stated that the government is still actively working to secure their safe release through coordinated and discreet efforts.
“The viral video about the release of those abducted at Oriire in Oyo State is unfortunately untrue,” he said. “The state government continues its discreet interventions, which we are very hopeful will yield the desired result soon. We thank all for their patience.”
He urged the public, especially social media users, to verify information before sharing, warning that unconfirmed reports could escalate anxiety and inflict further emotional distress on affected families.
The commissioner assured residents that the government remains fully committed to rescuing the abductees and is collaborating with security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure their safe return.
Reaffirming the administration’s resolve, Oyelade stressed that efforts would not cease until all victims are reunited with their families. He also appreciated residents for their patience, understanding, and support during the ongoing situation.
The abduction in Oriire Local Government Area continues to generate concern across the state, drawing attention from government officials, security agencies, and community leaders. Authorities have appealed for calm, urging the public to rely only on verified information from official sources regarding developments in the case.
