‘Repentant’ Bandits Kill District Head’s Grandson, Abduct Nine in Kaduna Attacks - The Alternative News

Armed bandits have killed a commercial driver and abducted nine others in two separate attacks along the Kaduna, Birnin Gwari axis, further worsening insecurity in the area.

The deceased, identified as Mallam Ibrahim Adamu, was reportedly the grandson of a District Head in the Birnin Gwari Emirate. A family source confirmed the incident, stating that Ibrahim was attacked at Kwanan Giginya along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari highway.

According to the source, gunmen opened fire on Ibrahim’s commercial vehicle, killing him instantly. The attackers subsequently abducted about five passengers before fleeing the scene.

In a separate incident, four farmers were kidnapped in the Kurgi area of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area while carrying out routine farming activities. The assailants reportedly whisked the victims away to an unknown destination.

These twin attacks have heightened fears among residents, especially as the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari corridor has witnessed repeated violent incidents despite reported peace agreements with armed groups.

Locals say the persistent insecurity has disrupted farming, commercial activities, and daily life in the region. Community members also allege that bandits frequently seize motorcycles, mobile phones, cash, and other valuables during attacks, many of which go unreported.

Residents are now calling on security agencies to intensify patrols along the highway and strengthen protection in vulnerable rural communities to curb the recurring violence.
