SOJ Intensifies Campaign Against Child Molestation, Drug Abuse Among Students - The Alternative News

The Sisters of Jannah (SOJ), Abeokuta Zone, has taken its advocacy against child molestation and drug abuse to the Islamic Mission For Africa (IMA) College, Abeokuta, as part of its yearly War Against Child Molestation and Drug Abuse Campaign aimed at sensitising young people on safety, morality, and responsible living.

Speaking during the awareness programme, the Manager of SOJ Abeokuta Zone, Mrs Nofisat Tejuoso, highlighted the various forms of child abuse, warning signs to watch out for, as well as the do's and don’ts in preventing abuse.

Mrs Tejuoso passionately charged students-regardless of gender, to develop mental strength, remain vigilant, and boldly speak out whenever they experience oppression, violation or any form of abuse.

Reinforcing the campaign's objectives from a law enforcement perspective, Mrs Serifat Bello, an officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) who also doubles as the Zone's secretary, spoke extensively on child and drug abuse, explaining the moral and legal implications as well as the negative impact of such acts on individuals, families, and the society at large.

She urged the students to make informed decisions, avoid negative influences, and understand that engaging in drug abuse could have serious consequences on their health, education, and future aspirations

In her remarks, the Coordinator of IMA College, Mrs Alegi, appreciated SOJ Abeokuta Zone for the initiative, describing the campaign as timely and impactful.

Corroborating the speakers, Alegi emphasised the importance of children maintaining close relationships with their parents and guardians, encouraging them to always communicate their challenges and seek guidance   when necessary

Highlights of the programme included an interactive question-and-answer session, distribution of sanitary items, stationeries, and refreshments to over 160 students and teachers.

The campaign further strengthens the commitment of SOJ towards promoting child protection, moral values, and a safer environment for young people.
