Shock and grief have swept through the medical community following the sudden death of Dr. Tyoor Cedric Kondom, a medical graduate of Benue State University, who reportedly passed away just days before his formal induction into the medical profession.

The Benue Medical and Dental Students’ Association (BEMSA-National) confirmed his death in a tribute, describing him as a dedicated and hardworking young professional whose life was cut short at a critical point in his career.

“With deep sadness and a profound sense of loss, we join family, friends and colleagues in mourning the passing of our beloved brother and colleague, Dr. Kondom Cedric, who died on Thursday, June 18, 2026,” the association stated.

According to the statement, Cedric had successfully completed the demanding requirements of medical school and was only days away from being officially inducted as a medical doctor at the time of his death.

The association further described him as an exceptional individual whose journey through medical school was marked by resilience, determination and a strong commitment to the medical profession.

Friends and colleagues also took to social media to express their grief, many describing his death as both shocking and heartbreaking given how close he was to achieving a major milestone.

One mourner noted that after spending about ten years studying medicine at Benue State University and serving at the General Hospital in Gboko, Cedric was “just ten days away from his induction when death came unexpectedly.”

BEMSA emphasized that his passing represents a significant loss not only to the association but also to the broader medical community, noting that he impacted many lives through his kindness, dedication and service.

While some colleagues have speculated that he may have died from bone marrow failure, the exact cause of his death has not yet been officially confirmed.
