The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted bail in the sum of ₦100 million to former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar.
Naija News gathered that the decision was delivered on Wednesday during the hearing of alleged corruption charges against the former CCT boss.
It would be recalled that Umar was earlier remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre following a remand order issued by Justice Peter Kekemeke after his arraignment by the Federal Government on a four-count charge bordering on corruption.
According to the prosecution, investigations revealed that the defendant abused his official position by conferring undue advantage on himself while serving as head of the tribunal.
The Federal Government alleged that in 2021, Umar used his wife’s bank account to receive ₦5.5 million from a contractor engaged to paint the CCT headquarters in Abuja.
It further alleged that on January 25, 2024, he again used the same account to collect ₦6 million from another contractor responsible for the digitisation of the tribunal’s records.
In addition, the defendant was accused of directing a contractor to pay ₦2.43 million for his daughter’s tuition at Baze University, Abuja.
The offences are said to be punishable under Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.
However, Umar pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
