OGSG Screens 100 Prospective Headteachers - The Alternative News

Gafar Alabi,

The Ogun State Government through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has screened no fewer than 100 prospective headteachers for leadership positions in Public Primary Schools across the State.

Addressing the prospective headteachers, Chairman of the Board, Evang. Olalekan Ifede, noted that their invitation for the screening was based on their qualifications and readiness to assume leadership roles, explaining that the exercise was designed to assess their intellectual capacity and overall suitability, not to witch-hunt anyone.

“The interview is to assess your comportment, dressing and other qualities to ensure that you will represent the board well when deployed to schools. This is a significant stage in your career and you should see it as a responsibility that must be handled with commitment,” Ifede said.

He further encouraged the candidates to remain confident and embrace technology as part of modern educational leadership.

Also speaking, Permanent Member IV, Rt. Hon. Akeem Balogun, urged the leaders to translate their brilliance into academic excellence, adding that they should complement government efforts in improving numeracy and literacy across schools.

Earlier in his welcome address, Director, Administration and Supplies, Mr. Femi Fatade, stated that the screening exercise was a mandatory requirement for all prospective headteachers, stressing that promotion would not be automatic, but based on merit.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Sewakanu Noah, called on the prospective headteachers to change the narrative in their respective schools, while commending the Board for its ongoing reforms in the education sector.

Meanwhile, the SUBEB Chairman, Evang. Olalekan Ifede, had commended teachers across the State for maintaining decorum as the 2025/2026 third-term examinations continue.

He gave the commendation during a monitoring exercise at Baptist Day Primary School, Ijebu-Ode, where he noted some lapses and urged teachers to address them promptly.

Headteacher of LG Nursery and Primary School II, Sagamu, Mrs Adeyinka Odunaiki, appreciated the Board for the monitoring, assured that grey areas would be corrected.

Other schools visited included St. Augustine's Catholic Primary School I&II, Ijebu-Ode; AUD School, Ikenne-Remo; Local Government Nursery and Primary School, Sabo, Sagamu, III, & III; UBE Model Primary School, Olorombo, Abeokuta South; Alhaja Kudirat Abiola Primary School, Totoro in Abeokuta North; St James United Primary School, Mobalufon, Odogbolu; Obafemi Owode Local Government Nursery and Primary School, I&II, Adigbe, Abeokuta, among others.
