As part of its commitment and dedication to reducing illiteracy and empowering the populace through its Vocational and skills acquisition programmes, Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has trained Adults and non- formal Educators across the twenty Local Government Areas of the State.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu during a One-day Capacity Building Workshop organised by Agency for Mass and Life-Long Education for adult facilitators at the Conference room of the ministry in Oke-Mosan Abeokuta, said as a critical component of Education system, the adult and non- formal sector has received significant attention by the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration.

Prof. Arigbabu added that the attention was to foster a transformative and inclusive approach to education, ensuring that no one is left behind without the opportunity to acquire literacy, numeracy, essential life skills, and market-relevant Vocational competencies needed for productive living and sustainable livelihoods.

He recalled the the present administration had intervene in the sector through Establishment of world class Vocational/Skills acquisition centres in the four (4) divisions of the State, provided 

Strong support for the effective Monitoring and Supervision of all Adult Literacy and Vocational centers across the State,

Others were Modernization of Agency for Mass and Lifelong Education activities and programmes through supply of 21st century tools, gadgets and equipment,

Face-lifting/restructuring of the Agency towards enhancing Lifelong Education and

prompt release of the monthly remuneration for all Adult and Non-Formal Education personnel among others 

Represented by Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Dr. Lukmon Kiadese the commissioner noted that Government has consistently made intervention in reducing the rate of Out- Of- School Children in the nooks and crannies of the State, adding that all activities and programmes in the sector has also been included on the Digital Platform for Education Revitalisation (DiPER) platform.

"Let me assure you of the present Government continual efforts at enhancing both human and material resources available in the Adult Education sector. Together, we shall create an engaging and motivating environment where everyone would be easy to govern as a result of Education," the Commissioner noted

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs Oluwatosin Oloko stated that building an economically empowered society is a collective responsibility which requires dedication, creativity and a willingness to adapt to changing realities, saying knowledge and strategies shared during this seminar should be implemented in respective centres and communities.

Welcoming people to the programme, Director of Education, Agency for Mass Education and Life-Long Education, Miss Abosede Odulesi explained that the theme of the workshop, "Linking Literacy and Skills Acquisition to Sustainable Livelihood: Practical Strategies for Building an Economically Empowered Society," underscored the fact that literacy and skills acquisition are not merely educational outcomes but powerful instruments for promoting sustainable livelihoods, economic resilience, social inclusion, and national development.

Odulesi added that facilitators responsibility transcends teaching adults to read and write rather it was to empower them with the knowledge, attitudes, and competencies required to become economically productive. She enjoined participant to make best out of the training.
