Four aggrieved governorship aspirants of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Oyo State have reconciled with the party’s candidate, Senator Sarafadeen Alli, pledging their full support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The aspirants, former Deputy Governor, Oyedele Alao, Musbau Asanike and Dr Ololade Bakare, agreed to work with the party to secure victory in the upcoming polls.
Their reconciliation followed a series of meetings convened by the APC Governorship Aspirants’ Reconciliation Committee, established to address grievances arising from the party’s primary election.
Chairman of the committee, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, disclosed the development at a press conference held at Blueline Hotel in Akinyele Local Government Area on Sunday.
Lanlehin noted that although several of the 11 aspirants who contested the primary had reservations about the process, the need for unity ahead of the 2027 elections made reconciliation imperative.
“We listened to their concerns and disappointments and, importantly, found that we have far more that unites us than divides us,” he said.
“Today, we are pleased to announce that four distinguished governorship aspirants have agreed to put the contest behind them and work with Senator Sharafadeen Alli in the interest of the party and our victory in the 2027 general election.”
He described the move as a triumph of “collective interest over individual ambition, reconciliation over division, and unity over factionalism,” stressing that electoral success could only be achieved through a united front.
“No candidate can win a general election by relying only on those who supported him in the primary. A governorship election is won by a united political family,” Lanlehin added.
In a communiqué issued after the reconciliation meetings, the aspirants pledged their “unwavering and unflinching support” for President , Alli and all APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
They also committed to cooperating fully with the party’s campaign structures to ensure victory at the polls.
The committee further disclosed that reconciliation efforts with the APC “G6” governorship aspirants had been concluded, except for Barrister Akeem Agbaje.
The aspirants expressed their readiness to meet with President Tinubu at his convenience to reaffirm their support for his 2027 presidential bid.
