An Islamic cleric has reportedly been seen carrying what appears to be a pump-action firearm while moving with members of his congregation in Sokoto State, amid growing insecurity and renewed attacks by armed bandits.

The incident was captured in a video shared on X by D English Alhaji Media.

In the footage, the cleric, dressed in Islamic attire, is seen carrying what appears to be a pump-action gun as he walks alongside members of his congregation.

However, the identity of the cleric, the exact location and the circumstances surrounding the recording could not be independently verified.

The development comes amid renewed attacks on communities across parts of Sokoto State, where residents have continued to face threats from armed bandits and kidnappers.

The sighting has also raised concerns about the extent to which insecurity may be forcing residents, including religious leaders, to resort to carrying firearms for protection.
