Family of Four, Dog Die After Eating Amala in Kogi - The Alternative News

Four members of the same family have reportedly died after consuming amala in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The family’s dog was also said to have died after consuming the same food, raising concerns about possible food poisoning or contamination.

Following the incident, the Kogi State Government has ordered an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying Governor Ahmed Ododo had directed the Commissioner for Health to commence a comprehensive investigation.

According to Fanwo, the governor ordered authorities to determine whether the food consumed by the deceased was contaminated or whether other medical or environmental factors contributed to the deaths.

He said relevant samples and available evidence would be examined in line with established public health procedures.

The commissioner added that the reported death of the family’s dog after consuming the same food would also form part of the investigation.

Fanwo said the Ministry of Health had been directed to work with relevant agencies and stakeholders to ensure a thorough investigation and implement appropriate public health measures based on its findings.

The state government urged residents to remain calm and avoid drawing conclusions about the cause of the deaths until the investigation is concluded and the facts established.

Fanwo said Governor Ododo commiserated with the bereaved family and the people of Ihima, while assuring residents that further information would be released as verified facts emerge.
