The First Lady of Ogun State, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, has urged the residents of Ikenne Local Government Area to take ownership of government-implemented projects by ensuring their proper maintenance as this will be the surest way to extend the lifespan of these infrastructures and enhance their utility for the community.
She gave the charge during the inauguration of grassroots development projects in Ikenne, where she emphasised the critical role of maintenance in sustainable development.
She highlighted that community involvement in the upkeep of these facilities is essential for maximizing the benefits of government initiatives.
"By taking responsibility for these infrastructures, communities can ensure their longevity, allowing resources to be allocated to other impactful projects that further the state's progress," she stated.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, in his remarks, said that the grassroots projects had demonstrated the local government's dedication to its constituents. He noted that these efforts were in alignment with the agenda of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration.
"The projects reflect the strong partnership between the state and local government. With continued support, the government is poised to deliver even more benefits to its people," he added.
Earlier, Chairman of Ikenne Local Government, Hon. Jamiu Asimi, explained that the projects were strategically selected and executed to meet the community's pressing needs. He affirmed that the initiatives were designed to enhance the quality of life and fulfill the government's commitments to its citizens.
"Our commitment to serving the community with diligence and transparency is stronger than ever. We urge our citizens to support and collaborate with us by promptly paying their levies and fees, which are crucial for sustaining and expanding our developmental initiatives". He remarked.
In his goodwil message, the Olofin of Ilisan, Oba Michael Olufemi Sonuga, represented by his son, Aremo Babatunde Sonuga, expressed gratitude to the State government and Hon. Ashimi for his dedicated service in Ikenne.
The commissioned projects included the new Koregun Road in Ilisan, Sesan Akinsaya Road in Ikenne, the refurbished Chairman's office bloc and the installation of boreholes in all 10 wards across the Local Government Area, among others.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Babatunde Emilola-Gazal, wife of the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Derin Talabi, wife of the State Head of Service, and other distinguished personalities.
