The Lagos State Government has arrested a suspect for allegedly vandalising a concrete road barrier at Kosofe Bus Stop, Mile 12, along Ikorodu Road.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development on Saturday via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating that the arrest followed a routine monitoring and enforcement operation conducted by government officials.

According to Wahab, the suspect was apprehended while deliberately removing key structural components of the barrier, including iron rods, cables and steel reinforcements, materials essential to the stability and effectiveness of the installation.

“During monitoring and enforcement operations yesterday, our team apprehended a suspect at Kosofe Bus Stop, Mile 12, along Ikorodu Road, for vandalising a concrete barrier installed to prevent pedestrians from crossing the expressway at unauthorised points,” he stated.

He further explained that the barrier was put in place to enhance road safety and discourage dangerous pedestrian crossings on the busy expressway.

Wahab emphasised that the suspect would be prosecuted in accordance with the law, noting that the action reflects the state government’s commitment to safeguarding public infrastructure and protecting residents.

“The suspect has been arrested and will be prosecuted in accordance with the law. This enforcement action underscores the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure and ensuring the safety of all road users,” he added.

The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by the state government to curb vandalism and preserve critical public assets. Authorities have repeatedly warned that tampering with infrastructure not only wastes public resources but also poses serious risks to public safety.

This development comes amid growing concerns over the increasing rate of vandalism across the state. Recently, no fewer than 27 suspected hoodlums were arrested for allegedly vandalising a bridge linking Festac Town to Alakija, following a directive by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for stricter enforcement and prosecution of offenders.
