LASEMA Confirms Accident on Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Claims Five Lives - The Alternative News

Five male adults have died following a road accident involving a Toyota Camry and an Iveco truck on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Lagos State.

Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), said the crash occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Sawmill, near Mowo Bus Stop.

According to NAN, Oke-Osanyintolu said the accident was caused by “over-speeding and reckless driving” by the driver of the Toyota Camry.

He said preliminary investigations showed that the Toyota, with registration number FKJ 630KS, reportedly lost control, veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with an oncoming Iveco truck marked T28081 LA.

Oke-Osanyintolu said LASEMA’s Dolphin Team and two tow trucks were deployed to evacuate the vehicles and restore normal traffic flow.

He said the vehicles were subsequently taken to the Morogbo Police Division, while the road was cleared and reopened to traffic.

He added that the victims’ remains were recovered and handed over to officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

“The remains of the victims were carefully recovered, bagged with dignity and handed over to officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps,” he said.

Oke-Osanyintolu urged motorists to avoid speeding, wrongful overtaking and other dangerous driving practices, particularly in the early hours of the day.
