As part of a broader strategy to strengthen local governance through traditional leadership structures, the Ogun State Government has elevated the Onita-Egbe of Ita-Egbe stool to Obaship status.
Speaking during the official installation and presentation of the staff of office to Oba Saanu Ojo in Ipokia Local Government Area, Governor Dapo Abiodun, highlighted the critical role traditional institutions play as communication channels between rural communities and State authorities.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi, the Governor explained that upgrading deserving stools empowers traditional rulers to manage community administration, resolve disputes and gather security intelligence at the grassroots level.
He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to evaluating genuine requests for stool upgrades across Ogun State, provided they align with statutory procedures, peace-building objectives and community consensus.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman, Ipokia Local Government Area, Hon. Johnson Avoseh, expressed deep gratitude to Governor Abiodun, for approving Oba Saanu Ojo's appointment as the Onita-Egbe of Ita-Egbe Kingdom. He advised the traditional ruler to serve as an ambassador of peace and unity, while urging residents to accord the new monarch full support and cooperation.
Echoing these sentiments, the Opo of Idosemo, Oba James Igbowu and the Onihunbo of Ihunbo Kingdom, Oba Joseph Adesiyan, called on the people of Ita-Egbe to embrace peace and collaborate with the monarch for the advancement of the community.
Similarly, the member representing Ipokia/Idiroko Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Bisi Oyedele, described the new monarch as a God-fearing, receptive and accommodating person, expressing optimism that his reign would drive socio-economic growth to Ita-Egbe kingdom.
Delivering his acceptance speech, Oba Saanu Ojo, appreciated the Governor and the people of Ita-Egbe for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to lead with integrity, uphold the community’s cherished traditions to and work tirelessly for the progress of the land.
