As preparations intensify for the successful conduct of the 2027 General Elections, the Ogun State Police Command has scheduled a two-day security stakeholders’ workshop for September 22 and 23, 2026.

According to a statement signed by the Executive Consultant to the workshop, Dr. Bolu John Folayan, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, is expected to declare the workshop open and deliver the keynote address.

A veteran lawyer and public relations expert, Professor Fassy Adetokunboh Yusuf, is also scheduled to deliver the lead paper at the workshop.

The statement disclosed that about 520 stakeholders drawn from across Ogun State are expected to participate in the training.

Participants will include Divisional Police Officers, Zonal and Area Commanders, representatives of Police Community Relations Committees(PCRC), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Amotekun Corps, So-Safe Corps, Vigilante Corps, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Customs Service, members of the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, selected political editors of mainstream media organisations and representatives of major political parties.

The training will focus on inter-agency respect, cooperation and coordination, community engagement before, during and after elections, as well as professional conduct and accountability among stakeholders.

One of the major deliverables of the workshop will be the signing of a “Responsive and Responsible Professionalism Charter” by all participating stakeholders, Folayan said.

According to him, the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act and the Police Act empower various stakeholders to perform specific responsibilities during elections, noting that inadequate knowledge of these complementary roles often leads to operational glitches and breakdowns in law and order, which can undermine the credibility of elections.

“With improved knowledge of stakeholders in the law, inter-agency cooperation, media and community relations, successful elections are much more achievable.

“While the Constitution gives rights, the Electoral Act gives the rules and, of course, the Police Act gives the conduct, and most stakeholders lack knowledge in these areas regarding elections,” he stressed.

Themed “Elections, Community Mobilization, The Law & The Media,” the special training will also examine contemporary social media management techniques and fundraising as they relate to elections.

Folayan further emphasised the need for security agencies and the media to operate within the boundaries established by law.

“The Constitution sets the red lines. Security must protect these rights. Media must exercise them responsibly. No security operation should infringe on these without due process.

“That’s the way to have credible elections and that’s the goal of this training,” he added.
