Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has claimed that soldiers are attempting to prevent him from entering Osun State as the state holds its governorship election on Saturday.

Davido made the claim in a post on his verified X account early Saturday, saying he had been informed that soldiers were trying to stop him from entering the state.

He argued that every Nigerian citizen has the right to freedom of movement, adding that such a restriction would not be allowed to stand.

The singer’s claim came shortly after the Nigeria Police Force announced a restriction of movement across Osun State from midnight on Friday, August 14, until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, as part of security arrangements for the election.

Thousands of police officers and other security personnel have been deployed across the state to maintain law and order during the poll.

Davido, who is a nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been actively campaigning for his uncle’s re-election under the Accord Party.

Governor Adeleke is seeking a second term against candidates including Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other contenders.

Reacting to Davido’s claim, former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad described the singer’s reaction as “dramatic.”

Ahmad said the restriction was a general security measure announced ahead of the election and was not targeted at Davido.

He argued that the constitutional right to freedom of movement does not exempt citizens from complying with lawful security measures introduced to ensure a peaceful and credible election.

Davido’s allegation has since generated mixed reactions on social media, with some users citing the general movement restriction as the likely reason for security checks, while others questioned whether the singer was being specifically targeted.
