Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the appointment of Mrs Titilayo Olayinka as the Accountant-General of the state, barely 24 hours after her retirement from the state civil service.

The appointment, which took effect immediately, was announced on Tuesday by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Yinka Oyebode, in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti.

Olayinka retired on August 24, 2026, after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60. Prior to her retirement, she served as the Accountant-General/Permanent Secretary in the Ekiti State Civil Service.

Oyebode said Ekiti had joined states such as Enugu, Osun and Akwa Ibom that had engaged experienced retired accountants-general to head the office, while states including Kwara, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia and Katsina had appointed professionals from outside the civil service.

According to him, Olayinka served as Accountant-General of Ekiti State from November 28, 2019, to August 24, 2026.

He said her reappointment reflected Governor Oyebanji’s determination to deploy highly competent professionals to strategic positions as preparations for his second-term administration intensify.

“Olayinka, in her new role, has the mandate of the governor to set up a comprehensive training programme for accountants across the State Civil Service, aimed at enhancing professional capacity,” Oyebode stated.

He added that the new Accountant-General would bring extensive experience in accounting, auditing, project management, expenditure control and procurement to the position.

Olayinka is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration, with experience spanning the private sector, public sector and international development.

Oyebode said Olayinka had been credited with contributing strategically to Ekiti State’s improved performance in accountability, transparency and fiscal management over the past six years.

He cited the state’s number-one ranking in the BudgIT State Fiscal Transparency League for the second, third and fourth quarters of 2024 and all four quarters of 2025.

He also noted that Ekiti was adjudged one of the leading states in local government budget transparency and the Subnational Audit Efficacy Index by PLSI.

The state was further rated among the top 10 states in Nigeria for publishing detailed and accessible budget information for its Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas.

“These recognitions reflect strong competence, transparency, effective auditing processes and prudent financial management,” Oyebode said.

He stated that Governor Oyebanji congratulated Olayinka on her appointment and urged her to continue serving the state with greater distinction, dedication and commitment.

The governor also commended her for her previous meritorious service and contributions to the development of Ekiti State.
