Oyinlola Defends Support for Oyebamiji, Says ‘I Have No Regrets’ - The Alternative News

Former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has defended his decision to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, in Saturday’s election, saying he has no regrets over his choice.

Oyinlola, who spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, said his decision was influenced by the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the alleged weakening of the party’s structure in Osun State and Governor Ademola Adeleke’s decision to leave the PDP for the Accord Party.

He explained that PDP stakeholders had been considering an alternative platform amid the party’s national crisis but were surprised when Adeleke allegedly resigned from the party without consulting other stakeholders.

According to him, the governor’s decision to move to Accord Party came despite an earlier understanding that stakeholders would meet after their return from Atlanta.

Oyinlola also accused Adeleke’s administration of concentrating major government projects in Ede, the governor’s hometown, rather than ensuring even development across the state.

He alleged that out of about N362 billion spent on major projects, N260.5 billion was spent in Ede.

The former governor further criticised what he described as the deterioration of PDP’s internal structure in the state, saying regular meetings were essential to keeping the party united.

He also dismissed Adeleke’s claim that the governor bought him a vehicle, explaining that the vehicle was provided by the Osun State Government in line with an existing law granting certain benefits to former governors.

Oyinlola said such benefits also included security, drivers and other official provisions, insisting that the vehicle was his entitlement and not a personal gift from Adeleke.

Defending his support for Oyebamiji, Oyinlola recalled that he had similarly supported former Governor Rauf Aregbesola shortly before an election after falling out with the PDP.

He said his military background had taught him to carefully assess situations before making decisions.

“I have no regrets whatsoever,” Oyinlola declared, insisting that his decision was based on what he believed would produce a positive outcome for Osun State.
