Police arrest 20-year-old man for allegedly killing father in Anambra - The Alternative News

 


Police operatives in Anambra State have arrested a 20-year-old man, identified as Pascal Ogbogu, for allegedly killing his 56-year-old father with a machete in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday evening, August 25, 2026.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, the suspect allegedly attacked his father with a machete, inflicting a deep wound on his throat, before fleeing the scene.

The victim’s lifeless body was later discovered in a room after family members and community vigilantes responded to a distress report.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.

He said operatives from the Eziowelle Police Division, working with family members and members of the Abatete Vigilante, launched a search for the suspect.

Ogbogu was subsequently arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, August 26, following information provided by members of the community.

The deceased’s remains have been evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Ama, commended the police operatives, family members, vigilantes and residents who assisted in the arrest.

He stressed that timely information sharing and effective collaboration between security agencies and local communities were crucial to protecting lives and property.

The commissioner has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

He assured the deceased’s family and the public that the investigation would be conducted professionally and thoroughly, with the suspect subjected to due process upon completion of the investigation.
