Shettima: Nigeria’s Foreign Reserves Rise to Over $52 Billion Under Tinubu - The Alternative News

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has said Nigeria’s foreign reserves have grown to over $52 billion under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, attributing the increase to ongoing economic reforms.

Shettima made the remarks on Monday at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit held in Asaba, the state capital. He stated that the current administration deserves commendation rather than criticism for its policy decisions, noting that the country is now witnessing increased capital inflows.

The vice-president also praised Chukwuma Soludo for his support of the federal government’s reform agenda. He recalled Soludo’s stance during the 2023 elections, where he emphasized that electoral success would be driven by grassroots support rather than intimidation.

According to Shettima, Nigeria had been grappling with capital scarcity before the current administration assumed office, but the situation has since improved significantly.

He noted that foreign reserves, which stood at about $35.09 billion as of May 29, 2023, have risen steadily, reaching over $52 billion despite global economic uncertainties. He added that as of June 2026, reserves had climbed to $51.03 billion, the highest level recorded since January 2009.

Shettima further assured that the federal government remains committed to supporting credible investments and collaborating with state governments to create an enabling environment for businesses.
