A Mexican social media influencer, César Gastélum, was tragically shot dead while livestreaming on TikTok in Culiacán on Tuesday.

Gastélum, known for his comedic content, was reportedly streaming with two friends outside a fast-food restaurant when the attack occurred.

 

Witnesses said two men arrived on a motorcycle, and one of the suspects opened fire at close range before fleeing the scene.

Initial reports suggested the victim might have been a delivery rider, as he and his companions were wearing bright yellow jackets and carrying delivery bags. However, authorities later confirmed his identity.

Police have launched an investigation into the killing, examining cartridge casings recovered at the scene and reviewing CCTV footage. No arrests have been made, and officials have yet to determine a motive. It also remains unclear whether Gastélum had received any prior threats.

His death adds to a growing list of violent incidents involving social media personalities in Mexico. In May 2025, 23-year-old beauty influencer Valeria Márquez was shot dead while livestreaming from a salon in Zapopan.

Similarly, influencer Leobardo “El Gordo Peruci” Aispuro was killed in Culiacán in December 2024.
