Christopher Imumolen, the factional National Chairman of the Accord Party, has announced his withdrawal from the 2027 presidential race, declaring his support for the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Imumolen said his decision followed extensive consultations with party leadership. He explained that the move was driven by the need to prioritise national unity, stability and continued development above personal political ambition.

“The unity, stability, and continued progress of Nigeria must take precedence over personal political ambition,” he stated.

Imumolen outlined ten key reasons for stepping down from the race, citing a shared vision with President Tinubu in areas such as economic reforms, education, youth empowerment, industrialisation and overall national development.

He further commended the president’s leadership qualities, including his political experience, commitment to progressive governance, ability to identify and empower talent and efforts to promote inclusive leadership.

According to him, Tinubu’s economic policies and fiscal reforms have the potential to reposition Nigeria for sustainable growth despite current economic challenges.

Imumolen also stressed the importance of continuity in governance and policy consistency, noting that these are essential for strengthening institutions, attracting investment, creating jobs and sustaining long-term national development.

“My aspiration has always been to serve Nigeria and not merely to occupy public office,” he said. “Whenever the national interest is better served through unity and strategic collaboration, I will always choose Nigeria above personal political ambition.”

He urged members of the Accord Party, his supporters, and Nigerians at large to rally behind President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

“Our decision to withdraw our presidential candidature and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a deliberate sacrifice made in the interest of Nigeria,” he added.
