The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu I, has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term, declaring that there will be “no vacancy in Aso Rock” in the 2027 presidential election.

Akiolu made the declaration on Monday when the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari and members of the council paid a courtesy visit to his palace in Lagos Island.

The visit, which was accompanied by Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, formed part of the council’s consultations with traditional and religious leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Akiolu expressed confidence in Tinubu’s chances of securing re-election, citing his assessment of the president’s performance.

“One important thing that I know very well is that for the next four or five years, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock,” the monarch said.

He also appealed to Nigerians and political stakeholders to promote peaceful elections, honesty, hard work and unity, stressing that political disagreements should not become permanent divisions.

Yari, while speaking at the palace, described Tinubu as the “Generalissimo of Nigerian politics” and praised his political resilience and role in building the APC’s political structure.

He urged party members and the media to highlight what he described as the administration’s achievements in economic growth, youth empowerment, infrastructure and national security.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also described the visiting campaign council members as experienced political leaders, noting that Lagos was a natural starting point for the council’s nationwide consultations.

Akiolu further called for special status for Lagos, arguing that the state carries a disproportionate infrastructural and public-service burden because of its position as Nigeria’s commercial hub.

The monarch also urged public officials to uphold integrity, manage public resources prudently and plan for the long-term development of the country.
