The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun Sector Command, has confirmed that three people died while 20 others sustained injuries in a road crash at Tonkere town, along the Ife-Ilesa Expressway, on Saturday.

The Sector Commander, Mr Sunday Adebayo, disclosed this in a statement issued in Osogbo, saying the crash involved a Toyota Hiace bus and a Volkswagen Golf car.

According to him, preliminary investigations indicated that speeding and dangerous driving contributed to the accident.

Adebayo said 23 people were involved in the crash, comprising 11 females, nine males and three children, two boys and a girl.

He disclosed that the three deceased victims were two females and one male, while the 20 injured victims were taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical treatment.

“Three people died. We have about 20 others who were injured in the accident.

“The accident happened due to speeding and dangerous driving,” he said.

The sector commander added that FRSC patrol teams from Ife and Ilesa were immediately deployed to the scene to carry out rescue operations and manage the aftermath of the crash.

Adebayo urged motorists to exercise caution and avoid excessive speed, stressing that reducing speed could minimise the severity of injuries and fatalities when crashes occur.

He assured residents that the corps would continue its public enlightenment campaigns and road safety initiatives across the state to reduce road crashes and prevent avoidable deaths.

He also reminded motorists of their responsibility to other road users, stressing that road safety is a shared responsibility aimed at protecting lives and property.
